Swimming with whale sharks in La Paz from Cabo

The biggest fish in the sea feeds in the Bay of La Paz in winter. It is a long day from Cabo, and worth it.

The 2026-27 whale shark season in the Bay of La Paz runs October 1, 2026 to April 30, 2027, and swims start only once at least six whale sharks have been counted, per What's in Cabo. Tour operators sell it from November to April, with winter the peak.

What the day looks like

The Cabo Adventures tour takes 10 hours, with about 2 hours' drive each way, a local boat, snorkel gear and wetsuits, a snack and a Baja-style lunch. The minimum age is 8 and the weight limit is 250 lb. Life jackets are required at all times, and reasonably strong swimming is encouraged.

Whale sharks vs whale watching

You can swim with whale sharks under regulated rules. You cannot swim with whales. For humpbacks, take a whale-watching boat in Cabo instead.
